Defining and Finding “Success”

What does it take to pave a successful career path within academia? What internal and external resources can be accessed to know when to “just say ‘yes’”? In this session, participants will examine institutional guidelines for achieving professional success, consider the ways that their personal priorities shape the meaning of “success,” and explore how to balance and align the two. The session facilitator will draw on her experiences as a faculty member, department chair, and academic dean to shape the discussion.

Participants are asked to find and bring to the session the faculty review guidelines from their institution that are relevant for their own particular type of position – e.g., for someone in a tenure-track position, but not yet tenured, these would likely be their institutional Tenure & Promotion guidelines.
